On the night of Niima, Eoantos 5117 The Order of the Shadow hosted a discussion that centered around reconciling personal apotheosis as a metaphor for individual growth against the actualized presence of manifest divinity.
This was also for the sole purpose of navigating the hazardous terrain of faith, spirituality and divine providence as an influence on modern social structure. This lecture was originally suppossed to be hosted by Xoryl but due to circumstances they were not able to make it.
The Order of the Shadow continued on with the lecture, as well as, stated how the Order got their start. Debia was among the crowd and was invited to speak on Noi'sho'rah.
Documented below:
Cruxophim pleasantly offers, "I did bring some refreshments, feel free to avail yourselves."
Cruxophim pleasantly begins, "I'm no expert on the Arkati, of course... but if any have any questions, I'd be happy to give it a go. The shadows are more my area of study."
Cruxophim chuckles.
Speaking softly to Cruxophim, Mandral says, "Can you tell us how your Order began? It seems the genesis of things this week has been a common topic."
Speaking pleasantly to Mandral, Cruxophim states, "It arose, primarily, out of a need and an interest for those of us of a more... shall we say, neutral bent."
Mandral softly asks, "Neutral?"
Speaking calmly to Mandral, Cruxophim explains, "Not mandated or legislated by external sources, such as is the case with some curricula deeper within the Empire. Freedom, essentially. Most of us share a common interest: research."
Mandral nods slowly at Cruxophim.
Speaking softly to you, Mandral asks, "Is it the same research as yours?"
Speaking to Mandral, you softly say, "In some ways yes, we offer freedom from any mandated external forces. We also do research in the Arkati, but I think what seperates us from the Order of the Shadow is we offer divination.
Cruxophim sincerely apologizes, "My apologies for the absence of our chosen speaker, I can only presume he has succumbed to some unfortunate fate."
Cruxophim chuckles.
Mandral softly says, "Please continue to talk, I'll return shortly."
Mandral just went through a southern archway.
Naamit curiously asks, "What was the topic I missed?"
Speaking affably to Naamit, Cruxophim explains, "How the Order was founded."
Gnaeusprimus takes a bite of his apple crumble pie.
Cruxophim thoughtfully inquires, "I'm curious, are there any among us who do -not- share a particular faith? Atheists, perhaps?"
Talinvor says, "Well, not one based among the Arkati as such."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra asks, "People who don't think the Arkati are gods, do you mean?"
Speaking amusedly to Ysharra, Cruxophim agrees, "Something along those lines. We are all familar with forces at work within our world, but how one chooses to catagorize them is often contentious, it would seem."
Cruxophim chuckles.
Naamit removes a cup of pomegranate tea from in her lambswool cloak.
Raelee says, "I find that most arguments over whether or not the Arkati are gods are ineffective due to a lack of consensus on the definition of 'god'."
Cruxophim nonchalantly adds, "Many disagree on the... specifics."
Subarashi says, "I don't generally describe them as gods, myself."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Debia says, "Noi'sho'rah taught that the Arkati are mentors to learn from."
Speaking to Subarashi, Ysharra says, "Agreed. Though I find the distinction somewhat different than he might mean."
Ysharra asks, "Are gods defined by having followers and temples?"
Speaking pleasantly to Debia, Cruxophim requests, "I would love to hear more of that, if you'd be willing."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Debia says, "Certainly."
Speaking thoughtfully to Ysharra, Cruxophim ventures, "I suppose that could be one definition."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "The scholar would point out that they gain from such, I believe."
Speaking casually to Ysharra, Naamit offers, "Power lurking without acknowledgement makes not a god, but a demon in the wings?"
Speaking amicably to Ysharra, Cruxophim agrees, "Belief is a potent antecedent to power, in a reality that is so freely shaped as ours."
Speaking to Naamit, Ysharra says, "You never lack for a potent turn of phrase, Priestess Apparent."
Khalah says, "If one defines a "god" as a supreme being, and the source of moral authority, then I believe many an Arkati would fall short."
Speaking thoughtfully to Khalah, Cruxophim agrees, "That is also a fair point, as per the aforementioned contention."
Speaking bemusedly to Naamit, Cruxophim wonders, "Care to share?"
Speaking bluntly to Khalah, Naamit says, "Thankfully, morals are easy to come by."
Speaking to Naamit, Khalah says, "If one wishes to be fettered by them, yes."
Speaking sagely to Naamit, Cruxophim opines, "I think fluidity is sometimes important, yes."
Meril says, "The first time someone spoke the word 'god', it simply meant 'dragon'. Language has corrupted over the years, people ascribing new meanings to old words."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "Mutable."
Meril furrows her brow.
Naamit says, "Godliness is a bizarre term, truly."
Debia says, "I prefer divine."
Naamit nods in agreement at Meril.
Debia agrees with Naamit.
Speaking thoughtfully to Meril, Cruxophim agrees, "Interesing, yes."
Chaoswynd leans against the archway, taking a momentary rest.
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "Like a tendril can bend, bind or pierce."
(Ysharra spreads her hands disarmingly, letting a few of the brambles around her close in around the expressive gesture.)
Speaking to Ysharra, Debia says, "Or be waved away with the flick of a hand."
Cruxophim affably explains, "I think a good many of us in the Order embrace that manner of fluidity, which is another commonality we share."
Ysharra agrees, "Mutable."
Speaking to Khalah, Talinvor says, "I was just finding truth to your statement. Morality is a social restriction, which differs per society."
Ysharra nods at Debia.
Speaking to Talinvor, Khalah says, "And circumstance, and situation, and motivation..."
Talinvor nods in agreement at Khalah.
Khalah says, "Convenience."
Cruxophim politely states, "We do have another potential lecture who will hopefully be arriving soon, I hope no one objects to this manner of freeform conversation in the meanwhile? I do quite like such, myself."
Speaking to Khalah, Talinvor says, "A means to control the populace by enforcing restrictions to behavior."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "No, not at all."
Cruxophim slowly corrects, "Lecturer, too."
Speaking to Talinvor, Khalah says, "Exactly the purpose of it."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "I hope you mean Xorus. Hey, no shoving."
Speaking to Talinvor, Naamit counters, "And a means to judge, however righteous."
Cruxophim affably notes, "I see already that there are a good many different viewpoints among us. This is good, methinks."
Cruxophim grins at Ysharra.
Speaking to Naamit, Debia says, "But it's so nice to look down on the peons below."
Speaking to Naamit, Talinvor says, "Indeed, which creates authority."
Debia says, "The view is simply amazing."
Speaking to Debia, Naamit asks, "Do you see much, from your vantage?"
Mandral agrees with Cruxophim.
Speaking to Naamit, Debia says, "I see lots of things. Sadly and fortunately."
Speaking to Debia, Talinvor says, "One of these days I won't miss."
Speaking pleasantly to Debia, Cruxophim muses, "Some of us prefer to be in the dirt and blood of it all. Down where the nuance lives."
Cruxophim flashes a quick grin at Debia.
Ysharra says, "Aenatumgana offers a better look down."
Ysharra nods.
Speaking to Talinvor, Debia says, "One of these days I may not dodge."
Speaking fondly to Debia, Cruxophim states, "The grit."
Ysharra says, "And there are peaks north of him that are even broader."
Speaking amusedly to Debia, Talinvor says, "Now won't that be a shock."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Debia says, "Much easier to stab people when you're right in front of them."
Debia agrees with Cruxophim.
Speaking pleasantly to Debia, Cruxophim requests, "Would you care to expound upon the teachings of Noi'sho'rah a bit?"
Speaking to Cruxophim, Debia asks, "Oh dear, are you sure?"
Mandral turns an inquisitive ear toward Debia.
Speaking softly to Debia, Mandral says, "Yes, please."
Debia says, "Dark Elves, Sylvankind, all the Elven Houses... we were all one people."
Speaking to Mandral, Ysharra says, "Mandral, this is Mistress Naamit. Calamity of the Shining City, Priestess and Whip Apparent to the Painlord."
Debia says, "Noi'sho'rah was one of the prominent elves of that time, and as the elves began infighting and dividing into houses, Noi'sho'rah warned us."
Dirvy tilts her head toward Debia, examining her intently as the tip of one ear twitches briefly.
Speaking softly to Naamit, Mandral says, "Well met."
Debia says, "Noi'sho'rah tried to prevent everyone from separating and was taught from the Arkati themselves."
Debia says, "Noi'sho'rah tried to get the rest of Elvenkind to follow the Way, to Ascend to the level of the Arkati."
Debia says, "And push aside self gratification and earthly power."
Speaking calmly to Mandral, Cruxophim whispers aloud, "It's all true."
Debia says, "Noi'sho'rah taught the Way, as demonstrated by the Arkati, with six primary tenets."
Speaking to Mandral, Ysharra says, "Mandral, the Whip is not shy, and in fact quite blunt, despite her sharp sting."
Debia says, "Family, Self-Perfection, Opinion, Power, Honor and Unity."
Debia says, "These were the main principles of the Way."
Debia says, "The Journey for everyone along the Way is unique to that person."
Cruxophim adopts an agreeable expression.
Debia says, "No one can walk your Path."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Debia says, "That's rather the short and short of it."
Speaking softly to Debia, Mandral says, "Thank you for sharing that, Debia."
Speaking to Debia, Khalah says, "Well said."
Speaking playfully to Debia, Cruxophim opines, "I rather like that structure, conceptually. With a little tweaking, perhaps."
Cruxophim flashes a quick grin at Debia.
Speaking to Mandral, Debia says, "My pleasure."
Talinvor says, "It is a cyclical path however, and it lands back to Family. Just as Family helps us along the path, we then in turn help the next.. and the next."
Speaking pleasantly to Debia, Cruxophim praises, "Thank you."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Debia says, "I could expand on it for hours, and have many essays I"ll be releasing next year."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Debia says, "My pleasure, thank you for the platform."
Speaking interestedly to Debia, Cruxophim enthuses, "Oh, I do look forward to reading them."
Cruxophim affably concludes, "That seems a rather fitting parallel to the idea of spiritual growth I presume Xoryl was going to discuss."
This was also for the sole purpose of navigating the hazardous terrain of faith, spirituality and divine providence as an influence on modern social structure. This lecture was originally suppossed to be hosted by Xoryl but due to circumstances they were not able to make it.
